Considering the Importance of Teaching Statistics

Statistics can be described as anything that we can do with data. It is a combination of learning from art and science. In statistics communication and its purposes are so important to be able to get data patterns and analyze them. By doing this we can have new opportunities to discover new things. Having good statistical reasoning skills will help everyone to generate data every day by knowing how they can generate data and how this data can be used. Since data can be found every time and every day, in education we need to start statistics in the kindergarten to college i.e. K-12. Also, statistical courses should be given according to the age of students and the level of students. Thanks, technology has a big impact that it enables us to reach data by using more cases and more variables with the help of real-world settings and sense-making.

- What role does statistics play in the standards?

The Common Core concentrates on a clear set of math skills and concepts. Students will learn concepts in a more organized way both during the school year and across grades. The standards encourage students to solve real-world problems. Thanks, technology has a big impact on statistics that it enables us to reach data by using more cases and more variables with the help of real-world setting and sense-making.

- Does it seem to be more prominent across particular grade spans or in particular courses?

Yes. Because statistics is everywhere. Students can encounter statistics in any course, at any time, and everywhere.

- If possible, identify specific statistical goals. To what extent do these goals build on prior statistical thinking and develop important statistical ideas over time?

Teaches people to use a limited sample to make intelligent and accurate conclusions about a greater population. The use of tables, graphs, and charts play a vital role in presenting the data being used to draw these conclusions.

Statistics enables students to understand, analyze the real-world setting, and sense-making.

- What are the strengths and weaknesses of the way the standards have the potential to develop statistical thinking within and across grades?

Statistics should be K-12 and necessary aspects of statistics from kindergarten to high school should be given. In this process, students may have some difficulties in interpreting and analyzing data and deciding how to reach a logical conclusion of the data collected. For example, some problems may arise in the following steps due to an error while collecting data. To prevent this, statistical properties should be explained according to age and student profile. In this way, people who want to concentrate on this field at the higher levels will come to this level knowing the necessary things.

- How do statistical goals relate to the goals of other mathematical content within a particular grade?

Probability is a part of statistics. Probability is a mathematics topic that we can encounter in everyday life anywhere and anytime. And while solving this issue, we need to make use of other content such as geometry and algebra. Likewise, in geometry and algebra issues, we may sometimes need to benefit from statistical issues. After all, mathematics is a whole.
