Storytelling!

Today I want to say important things about storytelling. 

Storytelling, which is the art of telling from memory rather than reading stories, is one of the oldest of all art forms dating back to prehistoric times. Storytelling includes two elements which are selection and presentation. It is very important to choose a storytelling and presentation suitable for the lecture and the subject being taught that day. 

Storytelling also supports language learning by enriching students' vocabulary and acquiring new language structures. Since mathematics is a language, it will be easier for students to understand the topics if we choose the way of storytelling while covering mathematics topics. Moreover, storytelling provides a motivating environment for many educational areas such as language learning, while reducing students' anxiety. This method that most teachers choose as a resource for teaching has many benefits. These benefits can be listed as;

• To allow children to explore their own cultural roots

• To allow children to experience diverse cultures

• To enable children to empathies with unfamiliar people/places/situations

• To offer insights into different traditions and values

• To help children understand how wisdom is common to all peoples/all cultures

• To offer insights into universal life experiences

• To help children consider new ideas

• To reveal differences and commonalties of cultures around the World

• To promote a feeling of well-being and relaxation

• To increase children's willingness to communicate thoughts and feelings

• To encourage active participation

• To increase verbal proficiency

• To encourage use of imagination and creativity

• To encourage cooperation between students

• To enhance listening skills
